About Uchee Pines Institute
Uchee Pines Institute exists to promote healthy living. Founded by two physicians who had grown skeptical of modern medicine, Uchee Pines Institute provides a 17-day program at its Lifestyle Center. The program's mission is to assist its guests in making positive lifestyle changes.
Most of the visitors suffer from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity; however, persons with other diseases who are ambulatory, not needing nursing care, and looking for preventive approaches are also welcome. Twice a week or more, guests meet individually with a staff physician to discuss their progress.
Other lifestyle counselors provide encouragement and prayer. Treatment methods include a heated whirlpool bath, fomentations (moisture and warmth), and a Russian steam bath. The Institute does not start guests on drug regimens; many times the staff can taper them off of all but the most necessary medications.
In addition, the staff gives group and individual presentations on health topics five days a week. Subjects include healthy cooking, quitting smoking, and avoidance of dangerous drugs.
